Your first 15 minutes after spawning
This is a suggested order, not a mandatory timer. If you face danger or a depleted resource, address that need first and then return to the checklist.
- Minutes 0–3: check species, growth, diet and controls; identify a landmark.
- Minutes 3–7: choose the water or food you need, with an escape route.
- Minutes 7–12: approach in stages and observe before feeding or drinking.
- Minutes 12–15: find a stopping place, review reserves and choose the next goal.
1. Check your version and choose a server
EFG focuses on Evrima. Legacy guides may describe different maps, controls or mechanics. Check your installed Steam version and the branch required by a server before troubleshooting a missing server.
Choose by ping, population, language and rules. Read grouping, hunting and PvP rules before joining. Unofficial servers may change growth settings or enforce their own rules, so advice from another server may not apply.
2. Pick a dinosaur for the way you want to learn
Look beyond size. Check growth time, food sources, skills to learn and whether you can play with friends. A life you can repeat comfortably often teaches more than a long first attempt at raising an apex.
- Pteranodon: learn the terrain from above, while practising take-off, landing and stamina management.
- Ceratosaurus: learn carcass use, feeding and fight selection; durability does not make you invulnerable.
- Omniraptor: useful for learning coordination with a group; poorly timed pounces leave you exposed.
3. What to do after spawning
Pause somewhere with visibility and an escape route. Open the character panel to check growth, food and the diet of your current species. Check Key Bindings if you changed your controls; the keys below are EFG's reference defaults.
- TAB: inspect your character and diet list.
- Hold Q: use scent to locate water, food and nearby information.
- E: interact, eat or drink when positioned correctly.
- X: enable night vision in the dark.
- Keep stamina in reserve and listen before calling out.
4. Find food and approach water carefully
A full stomach does not guarantee a good diet. Match food to your in-game diet list and choose sources you can reach safely. AI and fish are not guaranteed at a fixed coordinate; move before your reserves run out if an area is empty.
Before approaching water, inspect the surface and your route back out. Avoid lingering at an exposed bank or watching menus while drinking. Herbivores still need the right plants, while carnivores should consider who owns a carcass and who else may be nearby.
6. Learn from each life
After a death, choose one thing to improve: running out of stamina, lacking an escape route, misreading diet or taking a poor fight. Focus your next life on that lesson. In a group, agree on positions, retreat routes and target calls before fighting.
