Set a stop condition before fighting
Ask whether you are contesting food, protecting a teammate or chasing an opportunity. Without a clear objective, you will struggle to know when to stop.
Four questions before closing in
Assess current conditions rather than comparing only species names or size. A theoretical advantage can disappear when terrain traps you.
- Can I still retreat after this exchange?
- Have I accounted for the opponent’s teammates?
- Does the exit involve deep water, slopes or obstacles?
- Is the objective worth my remaining food, water and time?
Reassess after each exchange
Create room to read reactions, turning direction and timing. Reassess immediately if a third party arrives or your condition worsens. Landing a hit does not automatically mean you are winning.
Make retreat a coordinated action
Choose a clear direction and call a meeting point in a group. Avoid isolated return attacks that disrupt the retreat. If the original exit closes, seek space rather than forcing your way through an opponent.
Prepare with tools, learn from the encounter
Battle Lab helps compare conditions and statistics; it does not fully simulate latency, terrain, every mutation or player skill. Afterwards, record one decision you can improve next time.
